Azure Workspaces
project description
Azure grew to 200+ services built by independent teams, each shipping its own layout, command placement, and navigation logic. Customers rarely use one service. They move across compute, storage, networking, identity etc. in a single task, and every boundary meant relearning the interface.
The cost showed up in three places:
Customers: Slower onboarding, higher error rates in configuration, and friction that discouraged trying adjacent services.
Revenue: Azure grows when customers expand their footprint. Inconsistent experiences raised the cost of that expansion and made Azure feel harder than AWS/Google Cloud.
Engineering: Teams rebuilt the same patterns repeatedly, producing multiple variations of create flows / list views / command bars etc. and slowing delivery.
solution
A workspace design system.
